McLaren is an author, speaker, and pastor considered among the most innovative Christian leaders, thinkers, and activists.

Time magazine listed him among the country’s 25 most influential evangelicals, and his work has also been covered in Christianity Today, Christian Century, the Washington Post, and many other print media. He is a frequent guest on television, radio, and news media programs, appearing on such broadcasts as Larry King Live, Religion and Ethics Newsweekly, and Nightline.

He is the founding pastor of Cedar Ridge Community Church, an innovative, nondenominational church in the Baltimore-Washington region that has earned a reputation as a leader among emerging missional congregations.

McLaren is a popular conference speaker and a frequent guest lecturer at seminaries and denominational gatherings, nationally and internationally. Among the universities and seminaries where he has taught or lectured are Yale, Princeton, Asbury, and Fuller. , has been recognized as a primary portal into the current conversation about postmodern ministry.
